Michele Napolitano

 
 

Michele Napolitano is a choral conductor, singer and composer. He graduated in Choral Music and Choral Conducting with M° P. P. Scattolin at the “G. B. Martini” Conservatory of Bologna and perfectioned his knowledge with M° R. Rasmussen at the Music Conservatory-University of Tromso (Norway), thanks to a award scholarship by the Association ‘De Sono’ of Turin. In 2006 he studied conducting and composition at the Akademia Muzyczna of Krakow (Poland), thanks to a scholarship from the Music Conservatory of Rovigo, in which - in 2010 - he received his MA's Degree in Choral Composition and Choral Conducting. Michele graduated from Dams Music of Bologna (final grade: 110/110 with honors) with the thesis “The Polyphonic Chansons of Francis Poulenc”. In 2004, his thesis received the First Jury Prize in the ‘Silvestro Sasso’ Competition of Musical Research, held by the “Il Coretto” Musical Association of Bari (Italy). In 2005, he was selected as the only Italian finalist in the 5th Edition of the M. Ventre International Competition for Choral Conductors. With different choral combinations, he has won various execution and composition competitions.


He is a teacher of Permanent Workshop of Choral Conducting, organized by “Studium Canticum” of Cagliari (2009/2011), and Chorus Project, organized by “Coro Euridice” of Bologna (2009/2015). In recent years he has taught at Conservatorio “G. Verdi” of Como (Choral Music and Choral Conducting) and at Conservatorio “F. Morlacchi” di Perugia (Choir practice - in italian: “Esercitazioni  Corali”). He currently teaches Choral Composition and Choral Conducting at the Conservatory "G.P. da Palestrina" in Cagliari. In 2015 he collaborated with Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna for the qualifying courses of Tfa (Tirocinio Formativo Attivo).


Michele Napolitano is conductor and founder of the following formations: Choir “Ad Maiora: la Bottega della Voce”, Youth Choir “Bassi & Co.”, “Mikrokosmos - Multiethnic Choir of Bologna”, “Mikrokosmos dei Piccoli e dei Giovani”, “Eclectica Chamber Choir” (co-conductor).


In October 2011 he was chosen by the Orchestra Mozart of Bologna as conductor of the "Papageno Choir", group formed by inmates of the Penitentiary of ‘Dozza’ of Bologna and volunteers singers from external, project created from an idea of M° Claudio Abbado.
